Characteristics of tropical rain forests
All rain forests share similar characteristics whether they are in tropical or temperate areas. But tropical rain forests have: dominant trees that grow straight; trees with special chemistry to repel insects; smaller leaves at tree tops; and leaves that curl at the top so they don’t get overheated. In the cloud forest, trees are short and the leaves are hard. Epiphytes derive moisture and nutrients from the air.
